    • An enumeration technique is provided that requires no pre-assignment of addresses to slave devices connected through P2P links to a host device. With regard to any P2P link between devices, one device has a master interface and the remaining device has a slave interface. To distinguish between the master and slave interfaces, a master/slave status bit may be used. Each P2P link has a link ID that may be concatenated with the status bit for a corresponding interface (slave or master) to form a node ID. The host device receives a unique concatenated address from each slave device that represents a concatenation of the node ID for the slave and the node ID for any intervening interfaces between the slave device and the host device. The host device then assigns a unique Cartesian address to each slave device.

    • An architecture for providing service mediation in a network having a Layer-2 domain and an MPLS domain includes at least one Layer-2 provider edge device in communication with a first customer site; at least one Layer-2 edge device in communication with the Layer-2 provider edge device; at least one MPLS mediation edge device in communication with the Layer-2 edge device; and at least one MPLS provider edge device in communication with both the MPLS mediation edge device and a second customer site. An end-to-end connection is established using native Layer-2 signaling, if any, in the Layer-2 domain and PWE3 signaling protocols in the MPLS domain. The MPLS mediation edge device resolves associations between Layer-2 edge devices and MPLS provider edge devices. The service is “mediated” in the sense that native Layer-2 signaling is terminated at the MME, and a new domain, i.e., pseudowire, is established across the MPLS domain.

    • A data interchange system for a remote presentation service that applies especially to client/server applications for computer networked systems. The performance of a networked system that requires transferring data between a server and a client application can be improved by utilising very thin clients, such as with apps on smart phones for instance, where the business rules needed to operate the application are situated on the server as much as possible, instead of within the client application. Additionally, the quantity of data that is required to be displayed on or operate a client application should be kept to a minimum, which may be done by only transferring the least amount of data required, and also be taking advantage of default values for fields and not transferring any data if it matches the default. This approach has the further advantage that new client applications can be more quickly developed and deployed for a wide variety of alternate client platforms.
