The transmitting terminal apparatus illustratively includes a transfer rate setting block for setting a transfer rate based on how fast display screen data were transferred previously to the receiving terminal apparatus, a communication performance measuring block for measuring communication performance parameters representative of network communication performance between the transmitting terminal apparatus and the receiving terminal apparatus, an evaluating block for calculating evaluation parameters for evaluating the network communication status using at least the transfer rate and the communication performance parameters, and an interlocking process controlling block for controlling an interlocking process between the transmitting terminal apparatus and the receiving terminal apparatus by use of the evaluation parameters.

    • The invention relates to a method for managing a packet switched, centralized conference call between a plurality of terminals 13. In order to enable an enhancement of the user comfort, it is proposed that the method comprises at a conference call server 12 receiving data packets from all terminals 13. Based on these data packets, then at least one terminal 13 currently providing voice data is determined. In a next step, the data received in the data packets is mixed, and the mixed data is inserted into new data packets together with at least one identifier associated to one of the terminals 13 which were determined to provide voice data, such that the at least one identifier can be distinguished from any other information in the data packets. Finally, the new data packets are transmitted to terminals 13 participating in the conference call. The invention relates equally to a corresponding server and to a corresponding terminal.

    • A self-configuring telephone device interconnected by a network to other network telephone devices. The network telephone device is especially adapted to connect to other similar devices on a network, such as a local area network, without the need for a central controller or secondary wiring. A network telephone sends a broadcast over the network with a predetermined number. If there is no other telephone on the network, the network telephone assigns the predetermined number to itself and notifies the network. If there is another telephone on the network, the phone receives a message so indicating and a directory of numbers from which to choose a non-conflicting telephone number. When a non-conflicting number is found, the telephone adopts the number and informs the network. Voice mail and calls between outside lines and a network phone are supported as well.

    • A method of independently managing membership for a group and mobility for members of that group in a communications system includes setting up a group name and a membership for that group including a plurality of names, each of the names indicative of a user within that group; and establishing, separately from the membership, contact information associated with each name. With this method, initiating a session with members of a group includes contacting a first registrar with a request for a session, that registrar including the names indicative of the members of the group and a further registrar associated with each of the names; forwarding the request for a session to the further register that includes contact or end point info for the member; and then forwarding the request to the contact associated with the member.
