摘要： An architecture for providing service mediation in a network having a Layer-2 domain and an MPLS domain includes at least one Layer-2 provider edge device in communication with a first customer site; at least one Layer-2 edge device in communication with the Layer-2 provider edge device; at least one MPLS mediation edge device in communication with the Layer-2 edge device; and at least: one MPLS provider edge device in communication with both the MPLS mediation edge device and a second customer site. An end-to-end connection is established using native Layer-2 signaling, if any, in the Layer-2 domain and PWE3 signaling protocols in the MPLS domain. The MPLS mediation edge device resolves associations between Layer-2 edge devices and MPLS provider edge devices. The service is “mediated” in the sense that native Layer-2 signaling is terminated at the MME, and a new domain, i.e., pseudowire, is established across the MPLS domain.

摘要： The invention is a system for providing virtual connections through an ATM interworking multiplexer on a call-by-call basis. A signaling processor receives signaling for a call and selects the virtual connection for the call. The signaling processor generates new signaling that identifies the selection and transfers the new signaling to the ATM interworking multiplexer that accepted the access connection for the call. The multiplexer converts user information from the access connection into ATM cells for transmission over the virtual connection in accord with the new signaling.

摘要： A method and system for automatically generating and maintaining Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) addresses is provided. The method includes receiving a request from a requestor that includes an element identifier corresponding to a network element to be ultimately associated with the ATM address, validating the request, providing a unique identifier that corresponds to the network element, grouping the unique identifier with a set of parameters to create the ATM address without user intervention, and storing the ATM address in a repository. The system includes a Graphical User Interface (GUI) for receiving one or more parameters to be used to generate the ATM address and a set of computer-useable instructions accessible by the GUI that perform a method for generating the ATM address without user intervention based in part on the one or more parameters.

摘要： Interworking of first and second networks (12, 14) is accomplished by an interworking facility (30) that serves to map the destination address in first frames received from the first network into second destinations addresses compatible with the second network. To conserve such mapping the assignments, the first network encapsulates information frames (32) received from one or more sites associated with a first customer into jumbo frames (34) that have a generic address associated with that customer. At the interworking facility, the individual frames are stripped from the jumbo frame and routed to corresponding destinations in the second network.

A second network element supports connectionless communication and is identified by a second address in a second format. A network transmission unit and a data bank are also part of the radiocommunication system. To establish a connection between the first network element and the second network element, a connection-oriented link is set up between the network transmission unit and the second network element. Addresses in the first format are converted into the second format with the aid of the data bank.
