    • A video display device comprising a display panel which has a large number of luminescent display cells arranged in an X-Y matrix and with a common drive circuit for applying an input video signal which substantially reduces the number of drive circuits by at least a factor of two and wherein a switching circuit switches the input video signal from a first plurality of luminescent display cells to adjacent luminescent display cells at every field period of the input video signal so as to reduce at least by one half the number of drive units required in the display device.

    • A semiconductor pressure transducer includes a monocrystalline semiconductor diaphragm, the outer edges of which are fixed. When subjected to pressure, the transducer produces radial strains of opposite polarity in a central portion thereof and a portion surrounding the central portion close to the edge of the strain inducing region. The diaphragm contains a plurality of elongated resistances formed of semiconductor material of the same conductivity type which are electrically isolated from the diaphragm, per se. Resistances of an individual set which lie in proximity to one another are combined in the form of a bridge. The longitudinal direction of resistances forming one set of opposing arms of the bridge extend along axes of the same crystal system as the longitudinal direction of the elongated resistances forming the other set of opposing arms of the bridge. However, the longitudinal directions of the separate sets of resistances forming the opposing arms of the bridge lie in directions so that they do not orthogonally intersect each other.

    • A video encoder that encodes each of a plurality of blocks obtained by dividing an input image, includes: a definition unit configured to define a valid area which is allowed to be used as reference in a reference image in interframe coding; a detection unit configured to detect a reference area in the reference image for a target block; a predicted image generation unit configured to generate a predicted image by outputting an image of the reference area for the reference area belonging to the valid area and outputting a complementary image for the reference area not belonging to the valid area; and a coding unit configured to encode the input image using the predicted image, wherein valid area information indicating the valid area is transmitted to a video decoder, for each group of a plurality of blocks.
