摘要： Certain ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable monomers having a reactive carboxy group are useful for preparing homo- and copolymers for a variety of uses, including diagnostic assays. The polymers can be supplied as latex particles in aqueous compositions. The monomers are represented by the structure: ##STR1## wherein: R is hydrogen, halo or alkyl or 1 to 3 carbon atoms,M is hydrogen, an alkali metal ion or an ammonium ion, andL is a linking group having from 8 to 50 atoms in its linking chain, and comprises two or more divalent hydrocarbon groups connected or terminated with one or more nitrogen, oxygen or sulfur atoms, or with one or more groups containing such atoms in the linking chain, provided L has at least one arylene which is not directly connected to the terminal ##STR2## and further provided that none of the hydrocarbon groups has non-aromatic unsaturation.

摘要： We have now discovered a novel process for the removal or extraction of metal species from a variety of solid, liquid or gas phase materials. Metal species may be removed by contacting the material suspected of containing one or more metals with a thiolated fatty acid or ester thereof for a period of time and under conditions effective far the sequestration of the metal species by the thiolated fatty acid or ester thereof. The thiolated fatty acid or ester thereof comprising sequestered metal species may then be separated and recovered from the treated material. Moreover, following the treatment of aqueous liquids or mixtures, or suspensions or dispersions of solids in aqueous liquids, the resultant thiolated fatty acid or ester thereof comprising the sequestered metal species is insoluble in water and forms a separate layer from the aqueous liquid phase, which layer may be readily removed.

摘要： The present invention provides a useful novel intermediate and a novel synthetic process that can highly prevent contamination by various impurities to an optically active R or S isomer of a 2-amino-3-mercapto-2-methylpropionic acid derivative or salt thereof useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and the like and provides a process for easily and efficiently producing a high purity optically active R or S isomer of a 2-amino-3-mercapto-2-methylpropionic acid derivative or salt thereof on an industrial production scale. A process of producing a high purity 2-amino-3-mercapto-2-methylpropionic acid derivative or salt thereof includes reductively cleaving a sulfur-sulfur bond of an intermediate, which is a high purity optically active 3,3′-dithiobis(2-amino-2-methylpropionic acid) derivative substantially free of impurities. Thus, a resulting optically active 2-amino-3-mercapto-2-methylpropionic acid derivative can be produced without generating impurities as by-products which are difficult to remove.
