    • In controlling an optical switch that includes an incoming light deflection section to deflect incoming light from a predetermined input port in an arbitrary direction, and an outgoing light deflection section to deflect outgoing light from the incoming light deflection section in an arbitrary direction and couple the outgoing light to a predetermined output port, a monitoring section monitors optical coupling efficiency of the outgoing light into the output port and controller controls deflection characteristics of the deflection sections so that the monitored optical coupling efficiency is maximized. Therefore, even when optimal controlled variables for the optical switch are displaced due to temperature drift and/or drift over time, the time taken to find the optimal controlled variables can be significantly reduced and rapid switching of optical paths can be achieved.

The rotor core structure has first and second claw pole portions alternately placed in a circumferential direction to define clearances each having a magnet mount position deviated from an axial center of each clearance and permanent magnets alternately disposed in the magnet mount positions of the clearances with respect to the axial direction of the rotor core structure for magnetizing the first and second claw pole portions in first and second magnetic polarities, respectively, wherein each of the permanent magnets allows a greater amount of magnetic fluxes to pass through one of the first and second claw pole portions than those passing through the other one of the first and second claw pole portions for minimizing harmonic component to suppress the magnetic sound.

    • A method of welding a plurality of conductors to form a winding extending through an annular stator core. The conductors are inserted into slots formed in the stator core to have coil ends extending outside an end surface of the stator core. A plurality of pairs of the coil ends are arranged in diagonal arrays extending diagonally with respect to a radial direction of the stator core. The method inserts a first electrode into a gap between adjacent two of the diagonal arrays and then brings a second electrode close to one of the adjacent two of the diagonal arrays to arc-weld the pairs of the coil ends. This welding method enables the welding of the coil ends arrayed in the above layout efficiently while keeping the electrical insulation between the pairs of the coil ends.
