    • High molecular weight aromatic polyamines are produced by hydrolyzing a polyisocyanate having an isocyanate content of from 21 to 52.5% and an isocyanate-reactive group-containing compound having a molecular weight of from 400 to 10,000 in the presence of an excess of water. The reactants are used in quantities such that the equivalent ratio of isocyanate to isocyanate-reactive groups is from 0.1 to 5. Further, water is used in an amount such that the equivalent ratio of water to isocyanate groups is greater than 1. Low molecular weight compounds containing isocyanate-reactive groups, solvents, basic catalysts and urethanization catalysts may also be included in the mixture to be hydrolyzed. The hydrolysis is carried out at a temperature of from -20.degree. to 175.degree. C. The product amine is isolated from the reaction mixture by procedures such as phase separation, extraction and distillation. The polyamines thus-produced are particularly useful in the production of polyurethanes.

    • This invention relates to new liquid or fluid polyamine/carbonic acid salt compositions free from crystalline content and their preparation from mixtures containing at least one aliphatic or cycloaliphatic polyamine, an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydroxyamine having at least one hydroxyl group and at least one amino group, and water and optionally diluents and/or conventional auxiliary agents and additives, by the addition of carbon dioxide. The proportion of polyamine to hydroxyamine is in the range of from about 95:5 to 10:90 % by weight, the quantity of water added is from about 0.01 to 5 mol of H.sub.2 O per amine equivalent (but at least 1 mol of water per mol of CO.sub.2) and the quantity of CO.sub.2 added is from about 0.01 to 0.99 mol of CO.sub.2 per amine equivalent. The invention further relates to the use of these liquid polyamine/carbonic acid salt compositions for the production of foamed polyurethane ureas, especially for coating substrates or for the production of sheet products, using prepolymers preferably containing blocked isocyanate groups and the liquid polyamine/carbonic acid salt compositions as chain lengthening agents and/or crosslinking agents and at the same time as physiologically harmless blowing agents.

    • Polyurethanes are made by reacting a polyisocyanate with a compound containing at least two isocyanate-reactive hydrogen atoms having a molecular weight of from 400 to 10,000 in the presence of a catalyst containing tertiary amino groups. The required catalyst corresponds to the formula ##STR1## in which R, R.sup.1, R.sup.2, R.sup.3, R.sup.4, R.sup.5, R.sup.6 and R.sup.7 represent a specified group or radical. A blowing agent and/or stabilizer and/or chain extending agent and/or other additives commonly used in the production of polyurethanes may optionally be included in the reaction mixture. The catalyst employed in the process is particularly advantageous in that it does not have a noticeable amine odor.

The solution-promoting additives are salts of cations of Groups IA, IIA and IIIA of the Periodic System of Elements or ammonium or mono- to tetra-alkylammonium ions and anions formed by removing at least one proton from an acid having a K.sub.s -value of at least 10.sup.-7. These mixtures are particularly useful in the production of polyurethanes.
