    • Compositions and methods are provided for dewaxing wax-embedded biological specimens prior to histochemical analysis. The compositions and methods provided can effectively remove wax or improved wax-based embedding materials, particularly paraffin-based, from specimens during preparation for histochemical or other diagnostic analyses, while minimizing danger to users, achieving compatibility with automated use, and maintaining compatibility with downstream histochemical analyses, particularly immunostaining. Compositions of the invention comprise a paraffin-solubilizing organic solvent, a polar organic solvent, and a surfactant. Compositions can further comprise water. The method involves contacting a wax-embedded specimen with the dewaxing composition to solubilize the wax impregnating the specimen prior to histochemical analysis. The method can comprise the further step of washing the dewaxed specimen immediately after dewaxing with an aqueous wash composition comprising a detergent to remove residual dewaxing composition. Also provided is a kit for dewaxing a wax-embedded specimen, which comprises a dewaxing composition and can further comprise a second composition of (1) an immunostaining reagent or (2) an aqueous wash solution comprising a detergent for removing residual dewaxing solution.

    • A Chinese text entry system with eye-tracking technique can be used for computer input of Chinese characters. The system is comprised of two main components: the Chinese pinyin software and the eye-tracking system. Chinese characters corresponding to pinyin input are selected from a list of candidate characters by selecting the proper character through eye-tracking identification and confirming the selection by pressing a readily accessible confirmation key. The Chinese pinyin software implements pinyin input at both the character and word level, choosing from multiple character or word homonyms as pinyin is entered. The system uses eye-tracking technology that is only used to identify the correct Chinese character, with the character selection and entry occurring when the confirmation key is pressed.

    • A ball mold is composed of two half bodies and two hemispherical cavities respectively defined in the two half bodies to correspondingly match with each other to perform a ball-shaped interior inside the ball mold. Each of the two half bodies has an inner surface, at least one smooth area and at least one rough area; both areas are defined in the inner surface. Preferably, the smooth area has a gouged depth deeper than that of the rough area. Therefore, a ball molded by the ball mold has rough elevated portions corresponding to the rough areas on the ball mold and smooth recesses corresponding to the smooth areas on the ball mold. The ball only needs to be attached with pieces of artificial leather inside smooth recesses to be flush with the rough elevated portions. Thereby, the ball with two different surfaces is achieved in a convenient way without thermal pressing.

    • A disc sequencer incorporating parallel state machines to support both pipelined and non-pipelined read modes is disclosed. The parallel state machines include a first state machine and a second state machine for controlling whether data are read from a disc media and transferred to a buffer via a channel interface coupled to a read/write channel. Data may be read through the read/write channel in either pipelined or non-pipelined mode. If an operational state of either state machine is active, then the transfer of data between a read/write head accessing the media and the buffer is enabled. The operational state of the first state machine is dependent on the operational state of the second state machine such that if the second state machine is active, the operational state of the first machine will go active on the following clock period.
