    • A die roll and air manifold system comprising a rotary die roll rotatable in a press, and an air manifold having a cylindric body positioned in a central bore in the die roll. The cylindric body of the air manifold has an outside diameter only slightly less than the diameter of the bore. A pair of shafts extend coaxially from opposite ends of the cylindric body beyond respective ends of the die roll for mounting of the air manifold and die roll on a press. The manifold shafts have outside diameters less than the diameter of the central bore in the die roll and less than the outside diameter of the cylindric body of the air manifold. Axial passaging in the air manifold is provided for connection at its inlet end to a source of pressurized air. One or more air outlet passages in the body of the air manifold extend from this axial passaging to the outer surface of the manifold body. These passages are positioned for intermittent alignment with radial outlet passages in the die roll as the die roll rotates relative to the air manifold thereby to effect the intermittent delivery of bursts of pressurized air through the air outlet passages in the die roll to remove scrap material from cutters on the outer surface of the die roll.

    • An improved wood working facility has a table saw which is operated in combination with a table saw extension table. The extension table is provided with an array of orifices through which air is ejected to provide a buoyant support for boards and sheet material laid atop the extension table. An ordinary shop vacuum cleaner may be utilized as the source of air being expelled from the orifices. Air may also be received from a distribution system in the shop which distributes compressed air to the various machine sites. The air is provided to an air plenum below the extension table top and exits from the plenum via the multiplicity of orifices in the top of the table. A low surface frictional veneer on the table top adds to the effort reducing efficiency of the extension table.

    • Apparatus for forming thin pieces of dough material are disclosed. Dough, e.g. masa, used in preparing chip-type food products, can be formed into a sheet, the sheet cut into the desired shaped pieces and the pieces removed from the sheeting and cutting operations and delivered for further processing and frying prior to packaging. The dough is delivered in bulk to a nip between two rolls where it is formed into a sheet as the dough passes between the rolls. Downstream of the nip the sheet is removed from one roll and adheres to the second roll which is engaged by a cutter. The removal is insured by the application of gas pressure from within the first roll. The resulting cut pieces of dough are removed from the second roll by the application of gas pressure from within the roll, and the cut pieces are thereby delivered to a take-away conveyor for passage to further processing and frying operations. In order to place the sheet on the second roll and subsequently deliver the cut pieces to the take-away conveyor, the rolls are configured to apply gas pressure at particular positions along the path of movement of the dough.

    • An apparatus for producing, collecting and transporting platelike fins, including fin forming apparatus for simultaneously forming plural fins in adjacent side-by-side relationship from sheet material. The forming apparatus causes the fins to be discharged outwardly in the lengthwise direction thereof. Fin handling apparatus are positioned adjacent the forming apparatus for collecting and transporting the fins. The fin handling apparatus includes an endless conveyor having a substantially straight upper reach positioned adjacent the forming apparatus and movable substantially transverse to the direction of movement of the fins as discharged from the forming apparatus. A plurality of elongated fin collectors are fixed to the endless conveyor, being spaced a predetermined distance apart throughout the lengthwise direction of the conveyor, the predetermined distance being equal to the centerline-to-centerline distance between adjacent fins as discharged from the forming apparatus. The collectors projecting outwardly in substantially transverse relationship to the endless conveyor for permitting a plurality of fins to be collected thereon in stacked relationship.

    • A method and apparatus for cutting threads, particularly threads formed of mineral substances such as glass, are disclosed. A rotating drum carrying a plurality of radially extending cutting blades operates in conjunction with a rotating support drum which carries and supports the thread for cutting by the cutting blades. Ejector elements carried by the cutting drum and positioned in the spaces between the cutting blades are urged radially outwardly by centrifugal force and compress the thread against the surface of the support drum. The ejector elements then serve to strip cut sections of the thread from between the blades as the cutting blades move away from the support drum. Compressed air is supplied to the spaces between the cutting blades to remove waste material resulting from the cutting operation.
