摘要： A device (12) and method are provided for percutaneous transdermal delivery of a potent pharmacologically active agent. The agent is dissolved in water to form an aqueous coating solution having an appropriate viscosity for coating extremely tiny skin piercing elements (10). The coating solution is applied to the skin piercing elements (10) using known coating techniques and then dried. The device (12) is applied to the skin of a living animal (e.g., a human), causing the microprotrusions (10) to pierce the stratum corneum and deliver a therapeutically effect dose of the agent to the animal.

The method and device are used to improve transport of an agent across the skin for agent delivery or sampling. The applicator (10, 60, 80) causes the microprotrusion member (44) to impact the stratum corneum with a certain amount of impact determined to effectively pierce the skin with the microprotrusions (90). The preferred applicator (10, 60, 80) impacts the stratum corneum with the microprotrusion member (44) with an impact of at least 0.05 joules per cm2 of the microprotrusion member (44) in 10 msec or less.

摘要： This invention pertains to a method of imaging atherosclerotic plaque using radiolabeled monoclonal antibodies that are specific for activated platelets or activated endothelial cells. The method is capable of determining the site of endothelial injury. This method involves the administration of a platelet-specific labeled monoclonal antibody or antibody fragment to a patient. The antibody is allowed to accumulate at the plaque site and the plaque is then scanned with a photoscanner. The detected signals are then converted into an image of the plaque.

摘要： Provided herein are dosing methods for administering a biologically active agent using microprojections and microprojection arrays. The microprojections may be coated with at least two layers in order to achieve sustained release of the agent into a patient's blood stream. One layer comprises a biologically active agent, for example, a PTH agent and optionally other excipients. Another layer, which is generally, initially devoid of active agent comprises a polymer or a mix of polymers to provide controlled release, for example sustained release, of the biologically active agent contained in the first layer. Microprojections coated with multiple layers, some layers containing a biologically active agent and other layers containing a polymer for controlled release are also contemplated herein.
