    • The process for recovering vegetable oleaginous substances from oil-containing natural substances comprises a series of continuous combined pressing and extraction steps to increase and simultaneously to guarantee a high quality product for different kinds of natural substance starting materials. This is accomplished by subjecting the natural substances, conditioned and comminuted if necessary, after mixing with a solvent phase containing some oil to an intensive processing, mixing and extraction in the shear field of at least one rotor-stator unit and subsequently feeding the resulting liquid phase, through a filter if necessary, to a distillation column. The solid phase is extracted in successive stages until a residual oil content of 1% is reached and the solvent is fed back to a solid phase in a counterflow. The process as defined in my invention is universally applicable to all fat and oil-containing natural substances using suitable fluid extraction means. An apparatus for performing this process is also provided. A variety of rotor-stator assemblies are provided for the rotor-stator unit as defined in the nature of the natural substances being processed.

    • This invention provides for a process for separating extractable organic material from a feed composition comprising said extractable organic material intermixed with solids and water, the process comprising the steps of: (A) contacting said feed composition with a first organic solvent, said first organic solvent being capable of dissolving at least about ten parts of said extractable organic material per million parts of said first organic solvent at the temperature wherein at least about 50% by weight of said first organic solvent boils at atmospheric pressure; dissolving at least part of said extractable organic material in said first organic solvent to form a first solution; and separating at least part of said first solution from said feed composition to provide an intermediate composition, part of said first organic solvent remaining intermixed with said intermediate composition; and (B) contacting said intermediate composition with a volatile organic solvent, said voltile organic solvent being capable of dissolving at least about ten parts of said first organic solvent per million parts of said volatile organic solvent at the temperature wherein at least about 50% by weight of said volatile organic solvent boils at atmospheric pressure; dissolving at least part of said first organic solvent in said volatile organic solvent to form a second solution; and separating said second solution from said intermediate composition to provide a treated product.

    • A process for removing substantial quantities of volatile liquid e.g. hydrocarbon from a mixture of polymer and such liquid is provided. This process includes the initial step of introducing the mixture, and a liquid which is immiscible with the polymer, into a mixing/kneading zone provided with heated heat transfer surfaces having a temperature higher than the boiling point of the lowest boiling liquid component in the mixing/kneading zone. The mixture and the immiscible liquid are subjected to a period of continuous mixing and kneading within the mixing/kneading zone, to bring the mixture into continuously moving contact with the heat transfer surfaces. During this period of continuous mixing/kneading, the heated heat transfer surfaces are repeatedly mechanically cleaned to prevent buildup of solid polymer thereon. Volatilized liquid is vented from the mixing/kneading zone during the period of continuous mixing and kneading, and the polymer and residual liquid is subsequently discharged from the mixing/kneading zone.
