    • The present invention is directed to a hopper structure for feeding a powdery material adapted to enable gas, etc., generated in a plasticizing cylinder to escape irrespective of the state of feed of the powdery material within a hopper. To this end, the hopper structure of the present invention is arranged such that the plasticizing cylinder is formed with a material feed port for providing a communication between the interior and the exterior of the plasticizing cylinder, and that a hopper is provided for feeding a powdery material via the material feed port to the outer periphery of a screw within the plasticizing cylinder, and that a material feeding tube is mounted to the bottom of the hopper for allowing a communication between the bottom of the hopper and the vicinity of the outer periphery of the screw, with a gap for the removal of air being formed between the outer peripheral surface of the material feeding tube and the inner peripheral surface of the material feed port, the gap extending from the vicinity of the outer periphery of the screw to the exterior. The present invention is applied for the feed of a powdery molding material into the plasticizing cylinder of an in-line screw injection molding machine or of an in-line screw extrusion molding machine.

    • A manual loader for use in bypassing an automatic pellet feeder for an automold machine used to encapsulate integrated circuit assemblies in plastic. The loader has a support mounted adjacent the mold section of the machine. The loader also has at least one pellet boat which moves relative to the support into and out of said mold section. The pellet boat includes one or more pellet pots which are adapted to receive and hold a solid pellet of material. The loader has a release mechanism which is movable between a blocking position and a release position. The release mechanism retains the pellets in the pellet pots in the blocking position and releases the pellets from the pots when manipulated to the release position for dropping the pellets into a mold of the machine's mold section.

    • A loading device primarily for injecting granular plastic material into molding or extrusion machines includes a tee chamber connected to a source of the material. A filter and screen are supported on a top plate interposed between the filter and the tee chamber. A baffle is located in the tee chamber to deflect the solid material to a sight glass assembly, while air and fines flow toward the screen and filter. A second or middle plate is inserted between the tee chamber and the sight glass assembly. A bottom plate supports the sight glass and is part of an end bell which includes a quick connect and disconnect sleeve for attachment to the associated machine. A plurality of support rods and threaded members secure the top plate to the middle or second plate, and the middle or second plate to the bottom plate. A level sensor is secured to a bracket fastened to two support rods such that the level sensor senses the level of material in the sight glass and controls a source of air carrying the material to the loading device.
