    • Computer means for sequential fuel injection including coupling means for applying manifold pressure and speed signals to control fuel injection time in accordance with the product of the signals, at least one of the coupling means including conditioning means having a predetermined non-linear characteristic. In one embodiment, conditioning means having non-linear characteristics are included in both the pressure and speed signal coupling means and each comprises operational amplifier and diode blocking means operative to provide two break point, three slope characteristics. In another, the conditioning means is included in the pressure signal coupling means and a biasing circuit responds to the speed signal to bias the fuel injection time.This invention relates to computer means for sequential fuel injection and more particularly to computer means operative to provide characteristics closely matching the requirements of a particular engine, to obtain optimum injection of fuel under all operating conditions with a high degree of accuracy.

    • An intake throttle valve operating member is rendered movable independently of an intake throttle valve, disposed in an intake pipe, after the intake throttle valve has reached its maximum open position while holding the throttle valve in said maximum open position, and the amount of movement of the throttle valve operating member after the throttle valve has reached its maximum open position is transmitted to an electronic fuel injection control, unit, which in turn controls electrically the degree of opening of an electromagnetic fuel injection valve, whereby before the intake throttle valve reaches its maximum open position, the air fuel ratio can be adjustably maintained at a value at which the concentrations of the harmful components in the exhaust gas are low over the entire range of the internal pressure of the intake pipe, while after the throttle valve has reached its maximum open position, the amount of fuel only is increased to make the air fuel ratio smaller so as to obtain a greater torque.

    • In an internal combustion engine, the inductance of an inductive device is defined in direct relation to the intake pressure of the engine. Further, the inductive device is alternately charged through a first resistive device and discharged through a second resistive device at a trigger frequency which is defined in direct relation to the output speed of the engine. As a result, an action voltage of one polarity is developed as the inductive device is charged and a reaction voltage of opposite polarity is developed as the inductive device is discharged. Fuel is applied to the engine in an amount directly related to the duration of the action voltage as determined in direct relation to the time constant provided by the inductance of the inductive device and the resistance of the first resistive device and as determined in direct relation to the maximum peak of the action voltage. In turn, the maximum peak of the action voltage is inversely related to the minimum peak of the reaction voltage as determined in direct relation to the time constant provided by the inductance of the inductive device and the resistance of the second resistive device and as determined in direct relation to the trigger frequency. The resistances of the first and second resistive devices are selected so that the amount of fuel applied to the engine decreases with increasing output speed and increasing intake pressure after the output speed exceeds a predetermined speed limit.

    • Fuel is applied to an internal combustion engine for the duration of control pulses produced at a frequency proportional to the speed of the engine. The duration of the control pulses is determined as a function of the amplitude of a bias voltage. A speed voltage unidirectionally varies from a base level at the termination of each preceding control pulse to a peak amplitude at the initiation of each succeeding control pulse. A compensation voltage is substantially constant over the duration of each succeeding control pulse at an amplitude proportional to the peak amplitude of the speed voltage during each preceding cycle. The amplitude of the bias voltage is determined in response to the amplitude of the compensation voltage thereby to define the duration of the control pulses as a function of engine speed.

    • Method and apparatus are disclosed for varying the width of a rectangular pulse which controls the opening of an electromagnetic fuel injector, in accordance with engine speed. Reference pulses of short duration are generated in synchronism with engine rotation and these pulses are utilized to generate injection pulses, and control pulses. The termination of the control pulse, which is of predetermined width, is utilized to generate a linearly increasing reference voltage which reaches a predetermined voltage level, depending on the spacing between the preceding reference pulse and the following reference pulse. The voltage level reached by the reference voltage is utilized to cut off the injection pulse. The width of the injection pulse, and in consequence the quantity of fuel injected, is thus directly controlled by engine speed, i.e., by the spacing of the reference pulses.
