摘要： A plastic encapsulated semiconductor light emitting device comprises a plurality of leads 1, 2, one of which is formed with a dished portion 5; a semiconductor light emitting element 3 attached on a bottom surface 6 of the dished portion 5 for electrical connection of the light emitting element across the plurality of leads 1, 2; a plastic encapsulant 9 for sealing each end of the leads 1, 2, and the semiconductor light emitting element 3; a light-permeating cover 20 attached to an outer surface of the plastic encapsulant 9; and fluorescent particles 16 contained in the cover 20. As the number of fluorescent particles 16 at the vertex of the upper portion 22 is larger than that of the fluorescent particles 16 in the cylindrical lower portion 21, the semiconductor light emitting device can emit light with the nearly uniform light wavelength at any angular distance from the central axis of the plastic encapslant 9.

摘要： The invention is directed to constructs and compositions containing multimeric forms of nucleic acid. Multimeric nucleic acids comprise single-stranded nucleic acids attached via biotin to streptavidin and bound with a functional group. These constructs can be utilized in vivo to treat or identify diseased tissue or cells. Repeated administrations of multimeric nucleic acid compositions produce a rapid and specific amplification of nucleic acid constructs and their attached functional groups. For treatment purposes, functional groups may be toxins, radioisotopes, genes or enzymes. Diagnostically, labeled multimeric constructs may be used to identify specific targets in vivo or in vitro. Multimeric nucleic acids may also be used in nanotechnology and to create self-assembling polymeric aggregates such as membranes of defined porosity, microcircuits and many other products.

摘要： The present invention relates to genetic containment systems which express a biotin-binding component that can be used for selectively destroying recombinant cells such as genetically engineered microorganisms. These systems may comprise a streptavidin or an avidin gene whose expression is controlled by a regulatable promoter. The regulatory agent such as a transcriptional effector is expressed from another gene which may also be expressed and its expression controlled by the containment system. Expression of the agent can be designed to respond to physiological changes in the environment. The invention also relates to containment systems and methods for the selective detection or tracking of recombinant cells and to eukaryotic and prokaryotic cells which contain these genetic containment systems.

摘要： An apparatus for producing multifilaments having high fiber strength is disclosed. A spinneret melt spins a polyolefin at a first temperature into filaments. A cooling duct cools the filaments via convection at a second temperature. A chill roll, disposed downstream from the cooling duct, has a third temperature, and forcibly conductively cools the filaments. Finally, heated drawing rolls, disposed downstream from said chill roll, continuously draw the filaments at a high draw ratio.
