    • A method for operating a multi-ring network and an apparatus therefor are provided to connect a plurality of ring networks regardless of protection methods which each ring network uses, and make quick recovery possible even when a network failure occurs. A method for operating multi-ring networks comprises the following steps of: connecting the input working ring and input protection ring of the first ring network to the output working ring and output protection ring of the second ring network, and delivering wavelengths between the working rings and between the protection rings(S1710); branching an input multi-wavelength optical signal of the first ring network to at least one or more paths(S1720); and transmitting the branched input multi-wavelength optical signals to at least one or more wavelength selection type switches in order to selectively pass at least one or more wavelengths of the branched input multi-wavelength optical signals through the switches(S1730).

    • A multi-degree cross connector system, an operating method and an optical communication network using the same are provided to reduce system costs and simplify a structure by performing optical/electric conversion and electric/optical conversion only for a signal which will be dropped/coupled, increase extensibility of a network by reproducing a degradation signal, and use a bandwidth efficiently by grooming an electric digital hierarchy unit signal of low speed. A multi-degree cross connector system comprises optical couplers(500,500-1,500-2,500-3), WSSs(Wavelength Selective Switches)(510,510-1,510-2,510-3), demultiplexers/multiplexers, an electrical cross connection/grooming switch(520), an optical transceiver(530) and a control system. The optical couplers drop an inputted multi-wavelength optical signal into plural paths. The WSSs extract at least one single wavelength optical signal from the dropped optical signal and transmit the extracted signal to at least one output port or extract at least one single wavelength optical signal from the dropped optical signal inputted through at least one port and transmit the extracted signal to one output port. The cross connector control system controls wavelength components of an optical signal inputted into the WSS or outputted wavelength components.

    • PURPOSE: A terminal board including splitters in an optical network unit system is provided to directly connect telephone and xDSL signals split by the splitters to corresponding service boards to improve design efficiency of a communication system and reduce the size of each service board. CONSTITUTION: A terminal board including splitters in an optical network unit system includes the first connector(300) used for connecting with a plurality of subscriber lines, the second connector(302) used for connecting with a telephone signal line, and the third connector(304) used for connecting with an xDSL signal line. The terminal board further includes a printed circuit board on which a plurality of xDSL/POTS splitters(306) are mounted. The xDSL/POTS splitters are respectively connected to the signal lines of the first, second and third connectors to split and combine the telephone signal and xDSL signal according to transmission and reception directions.

    • PURPOSE: A tunable optical add/drop filter system for wavelength division multiplexing communication is provided to divide wavelength without an extra AWG(Arrayed Waveguide Grating) channel separator, thereby reducing the cost and the loss. CONSTITUTION: A multiplex wavelength optical signal generator(10) generates a plurality of wavelengths different in length. The first optical signal combining/distributing part(20) combines optical signals inputted from the multiplex wavelength optical signal generator(10) and the reflected optical signals for distributing the optical signals. The third optical signal combining/distributing part(24) combines the optical signal inputted from the first optical signal combining/distributing part(20) and newly inputted optical signals for distributing the optical signals. An add part(90) inserts new optical signals into the third optical signal combining/distributing part. An output part(85) transmits the optical signals distributed from the third optical signal combining/distributing part(24) to the next node. A processing terminal(100) receives one optical signal distributed from the first optical signal combining/distributing part(20) for reflecting a specific signal wavelength for a feedback and transmitting the rest signal wavelength. The second optical signal combining/distributing part(22) combines the optical signals inputted from the processing terminal(100) for distributing the optical signals. A drop part(200) receives the optical signals distributed from the second optical signal combining/distributing part(22). A plurality of flat optical guiding paths(a1-a8) transmit the optical signals between the constituent parts.

    • PURPOSE: A module and a method for reconfiguring optical networks are provided to easily reconfigure or upgrade the optical networks by switching the module to a changeable network portion and selecting elements inserted into the optical networks or removed from the optical networks. CONSTITUTION: A module for arbitrary configuring/reconfiguring a topology of optical networks, has at least one optical switching device(16,18) connectable to an optical network, and a plurality of network elements(20,22,24) connectable to the optical switching devices(16,18). The optical switching devices(16,18) are controllable to selectively connect thereto and disconnect therefrom one or more of the elements for switching them in or off the optical network. The module is a pre-manufactured block suitable for insertion into the optical network, and the network elements(20,22,24) are connectable to the switching devices(16,18) so that each of the elements can be either switched in the network, or bypassed.
