CONSTITUTION: In the device, a method for increasing bandwidth utilization of a transmission channel having a first bandwidth capacity and operative at a first transmission rate, the method including the steps of providing one or more input bit streams each having a transmission rate that does not exceed that of the first transmission rate, dividing the one or more input bit streams into a plurality of sub-streams, each having a bandwidth lower than the first bandwidth capacity, selecting a group of sub-streams out of the plurality of sub-streams which group has a combined bandwidth just lower than the first bandwidth capacity, carrying the selected group of sub-streams over the transmission channel, and assembling the selected group of sub-streams into an output bit stream.

    • PURPOSE: A method, an equipment, and a system for signaling in a network including an Ethernet are provided to offer a signaling channel for performing one or more signaling functions at the level of the Ethernet. CONSTITUTION: An adaptive block(14) has a source element(13) and a sink element(15). The source element(13) creates the first signaling channel, receives Ethernet information packets forming an information flow, and produces one or more service flows of service packets compatible with the Ethernet information packets. The source element(13) composes an outgoing combined flow with the signaling channel formed by the one or more service flows from the information flow and the one or more service flows. The sink element(15) terminates the second signaling channel, and receives an incoming combined flow composed from the information flow of Ethernet packets and one or more service flows formed from service packets compatible with the information packets. The sink element(15) separates the one or more service flows from the incoming combined flow, and analyzes the one or more service flows to perform the signaling functions respectively assigned to the service flows.
