    • PURPOSE: A reciprocating piston engine and an operation method thereof are provided to improve the efficiency of the engine by maintaining the maximum compression pressure inside the combustion chamber until the explosion of fuel gas and completely transforming the linear motion of the piston into the rotational motion of the crank shaft at the time of explosion. CONSTITUTION: A reciprocating piston engine comprises a cylinder(102), a piston(104), a crank shaft(106), a connecting rod(108), a fuel explosion apparatus(110), and a pressure retaining unit(120). The cylinder includes an inlet valve and an exhaust valve. The piston forms a combustion chamber(116) together with the cylinder by reciprocating between the top dead center(TDC) and the bottom dead centre(BDC) of the cylinder. The crank shaft is arranged to rotate in the cylinder. The connecting rod is connected to the crank shaft and the piston in order to transmit the power of the piston to the crank shaft. The fuel explosion apparatus is arranged on the upper part of the cylinder and blows fuel in the combustion chamber. The pressure retaining unit is provided in the cylinder and keeps the compression pressure of the combustor uniform while the piston is carried from the top dead center of the cylinder to the lower dead center until the operating time of the fuel explosion apparatus, with the inlet and exhaust valves closed.

CONSTITUTION: A free-piston engine of a linear generator system comprises an intake port(63), an intake valve(65), and an exhaust port(64). When a piston(61) moves according to a cylinder(62) and is positioned the top dead center of the combustion chamber, the intake port is formed with the leading end of piston at the upper wall center of the combustion chamber. The intake valve is installed inside the intake port. The intake valve opens the intake port with the pressure of the combustion and the external pressure difference of the combustion chamber. The exhaust port is connected to the combustion chamber between the upper dead center and the bottom dead center of the piston.

The ejection port discharges the fuel and air burned in the combustion chamber.
