    • It is intended to provide a natural biodegradable material which has both properties of biodegradability and mechanical strength; a biodegradable film or container produced from the natural biodegradable material; a binder for producing the biodegradable material; and a method for producing the same. A cereal starch such as kaoliang starch is used as a raw material for culture, a microorganism belonging to the genus Bacillus is added to the raw material and cultured, and a viscous polymeric substance is collected, whereby a natural polymeric substance having a property like cellulose with a hydroxy group which is not present in a petroleum-derived polymeric compound, and also having a structure like polypropylene is obtained. The natural polymeric substance is used as a binder and a starch and/or shell powder are/is mixed with the binder, whereby a biodegradable material having biodegradability comparable to cellulose and also having a mechanical strength with a property of polypropylene can be obtained. A film or container produced using this biodegradable material has excellent properties of both biodegradability and mechanical strength.

    • PURPOSE: A detergent containing overbased metal is provided which is useful as a lubricating additive, especially for marine engines. CONSTITUTION: Phenate/salicylate overbased detergents with high proportions of phenate and salicylate surfactants in the surfactant system and with TBN; % surfactant ratios of 11 or more are useful marine diesel lubricant additives. For an example, 540g toluene, 276g methanol and 22g diluted oil(150N) are maintained at about 20°C, added with 145g calcium hydroxide and heated at 40°C in stirring. Obtained slurry is added with 375g phenate, 42g sulfonate and 83g salicylate surfactant, and 100g toluene. The mixture is neutralized with calcium hydroxide, cooled to about 28°C, poured with carbon dioxide, heated to 60°C for 60 min, cooled to 28°C for 30 min, added with 127g calcium hydroxide and 62g carbon dioxide, heated to 90°C for 60 min, and added with 267g diluted oil. The product has percent surfactant ratios of 18 and a filtration grade of 0.51.
