    • PURPOSE: A driving system including an epicycle gear set including dual output ends on which an individual-multistage speed ratio controlling device is installed is provided to change a driving speed ratio and driving torque in order to drive combined common loads. CONSTITUTION: A driving system including an epicycle gear set (EG101) including dual output ends on which an individual-multistage speed ratio controlling device is installed includes a rotation power source (P100), the epicycle gear set, and multistage speed ratio controlling devices (VT100,VT200). The epicycle gear set is driven by the rotation power of the rotation power source. The multistage speed ratio controlling device is individually installed in between two output shafts (1011,1012) of the epicycle gear set and wheel sets (W100,W200) of a load end.

    • A drive axle assembly and subassembly for use in tandem driving axle arrangements has a removable drive pinion shaft subassembly. An input shaft (14) is journalled in an axle housing (12) and is coupled to an output shaft (18) also journalled in the housing by an inter-axle differential (24) for torque sharing of driveline power. An input gear (28) receives power from the inter-axle differential and drives a countershaft gear (32) mounted on the drive pinion shaft (30). The drive pinion shaft is journalled in primary (44) and secondary (50) bearings which straddle the countershaft gear and are mounted on a removable cage (48) which substantially surrounds the countershaft gear. The drive pinion shaft with countershaft gear is assembled into the primary and secondary bearings on the cage and is shimmed (62, 64) between the bearings to form a pinion shaft and subassembly. A threaded nut (60) is torqued over the end of the drive primary shaft to retain and preload the drive pinion shaft in the bearings. The cage has a peripheral mounting flange (54) which permits the subassembly to be shimmed and bolted against the axle housing to locate the drive pinion on the axle ring gear. Upon installation of the subassembly into the axle housing, a drive pinion pilot shaft portion (36) is journalled in a third bearing (38) in the axle housing.
