The pair of tongs moves from side to side by a pneumatic cylinder to transfer wire materials being cut. The pair of tongs includes a piece fixed by bolts from the outside so that a tongs block having a groove is installed in the fixed piece. A spring is installed between the fixed piece and the tongs block to load the wire materials.

CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for treating wire ends in a former comprises an end detecting sensor(21), a cutter(22), and a controller. The end detecting sensor detects the end of a wire(A) in the rear side of a material feed mechanism(8). The cutter cuts the end of the wire at an arbitrary position while moving in the feed direction of the wire. The controller simultaneously detects the remaining length of the wire based on a signal from the end detecting sensor and divides the remaining length of the wire to a cut length(L). If the value of the residue after division is half or less of a wire diameter, the controller stops a former and the material feed mechanism and moves the cutter to a position at about half of the cut length from the final division end, thereby cutting the rest.
