    • A fuel composition and a method for using the same are provided to control the deposit formation in a spark-ignition internal combustion engine such as a direct injection engine including a spark-ignition fuel. A fuel composition comprises a carrier fluid selected from the group consisting of a mineral oil or a blend of mineral oils that have a viscosity index less than about 120; one or more poly-alpha-olefin oligomers; one or more poly(oxyalkylene) compounds having an average molecular weight in the range from about 500 to about 3000; one or more polyalkenes; one or more polyalkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compounds; and mixtures thereof. The carrier fluid comprises at least one poly compound. The fuel composition further comprises at least one additive selected from the group consisting of additional dispersants/detergents, antioxidants, carrier fluids, metal deactivators, dyes, markers, corrosion inhibitors, biocides, antistatic additives, drag reducing agents, demulsifiers, dehazers, anti-icing additives, antiknock additives, anti-valve-seat recession additives, lubricity additives and combustion improvers. The amine detergent comprises at least one ingredient selected from the group consisting of hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic anhydride derivatives, Mannich condensation products, hydrocarbyl amines and polyetheramines.

    • PURPOSE: To provide a device and a method for supplying fuel additives to a fuel supply in a time-release manner, wherein the fuel additives are substantially released in a constant rate to maintain the fuel additives in the fuel supply to an uniform level. CONSTITUTION: In a device for delivering one or more fuel additives to a fuel, the device comprises an ion exchange resin to which the fuel additives are removably attached, wherein the fuel is selected from the group consisting of gasoline, intermediate distilled fuel, light oil, bio diesel, kerosene, and a mixture thereof or a precursor thereof, the ion exchange resin is selected from the group consisting of anionic exchange resin and cationic exchange resin, wherein the fuel additives are chemically reacted with components or contaminants in the fuel so that the fuel additives are at least partially removed from the ion exchange resin, wherein the fuel additives are at least partially removed from the ion exchange resin by physical reaction, wherein the fuel additives are selected from the group consisting of lubrication additive, combustion improver, detergent, dispersant, cold flow improver, dehazer, demulsifier, cetane improver, antioxidant, scavenger and contamination inhibitor, wherein the fuel additives comprise manganese-containing compounds, and wherein the fuel additionally includes a permeable membrane through which the fuel is permeated into the device and the fuel additives can be permeated to the outside of the device.

    • A composition comprising an improved alkanolamide, which contains a reduced amount of undesirable reaction by-products, particularly BHEP, and which will be suitably used as a liquid hydrocarbon fuel additive is provided. As a composition comprising an alkanolamide which is a product of a reaction between a fatty acid and DEA(diethanolamine), the composition contains less than 5000 ppm(part per million) of BHEP(bis-hydroxyethyl piperazine). A composition comprising an alkanolamide is prepared by a method comprising the steps of: (a) allowing the total molar quantity of fatty acid in the mixture to be maintained in excess of the total molar quantity of DEA in the mixture, and adding DEA(diethanolamine) and a fatty acid at a low addition rate to form a mixture of fatty acid and DEA; (b) applying at least a partial vacuum to the mixture; and (c) maintaining the mixture at a suitable temperature and a reduced pressure for sufficient time to proceed a reaction to provide the composition. As a fuel additive which includes a composition comprising an alkanolamide which is a product of a reaction between a fatty acid and DEA(diethanolamine), the fuel additive contains less than 5000 ppm of BHEP. Further, the fatty acid comprises isostearic acid.

    • To provide new spark-igniting fuel compositions and methods for using the fuel composition, which are able to be used for controlling, i.e. reducing or eliminating, injector deposits and reducing soot formation in spark-ignition internal combustion engines. The fuel composition comprises a spark-ignition fuel, a detergent, and a deposit inhibitor compound. The spark-igniting fuel comprises gasoline. The detergent is selected from a Mannich base detergent and a polyetheramine detergentosit inhibitor compound. The deposit inhibitor compound comprises a succinimide compound. The fuel composition further comprises a carrier fluid selected from the group consisting of a mineral oil or a blend of mineral oils that have a viscosity index of less than about 120, at least one poly-alpha-olefin oligomer, at least one poly(oxyalkylene) compound having an average molecular weight in the range of about 500 to about 3000, at least one polyalkene, at least one polyalkyl-substituted hydroxyaromatic compound, and mixtures thereof.
