    • PURPOSE: A fabric softener is provided to ensure low oil content of unconversed triglyceride type, good color, high hydrolysis stability and water-absorption, and low yellowing, particularly fiber softness. CONSTITUTION: A method for preparing a fabric softener comprises the steps of: obtaining a fatty acid hydroxyalkyl amine ester by performing transesterification or esterification of vegetable or animal oil including stearic acid and fatty acid with tertiary hydroxyalkylamine in the presence of a catalyst; and obtaining a fiber softener containing at least one esterquat represented by chemical formula 1 ~3 by reacting the fatty acid hydroxyalkylamine ester with a quaternizing agent in a low molecular weight alcoholic solution.
