    • A composition comprising an improved alkanolamide, which contains a reduced amount of undesirable reaction by-products, particularly BHEP, and which will be suitably used as a liquid hydrocarbon fuel additive is provided. As a composition comprising an alkanolamide which is a product of a reaction between a fatty acid and DEA(diethanolamine), the composition contains less than 5000 ppm(part per million) of BHEP(bis-hydroxyethyl piperazine). A composition comprising an alkanolamide is prepared by a method comprising the steps of: (a) allowing the total molar quantity of fatty acid in the mixture to be maintained in excess of the total molar quantity of DEA in the mixture, and adding DEA(diethanolamine) and a fatty acid at a low addition rate to form a mixture of fatty acid and DEA; (b) applying at least a partial vacuum to the mixture; and (c) maintaining the mixture at a suitable temperature and a reduced pressure for sufficient time to proceed a reaction to provide the composition. As a fuel additive which includes a composition comprising an alkanolamide which is a product of a reaction between a fatty acid and DEA(diethanolamine), the fuel additive contains less than 5000 ppm of BHEP. Further, the fatty acid comprises isostearic acid.

    • A reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent and a polyalkylene amine is provided to prevent or retard efficiently the oxidation of a liquid composition as a biofuel, and be used optionally in combination with BHQ. A reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent and a polyalkylene amine is used optionally in combination with BHQ to prevent or retard the oxidation of a liquid composition comprising 2 wt.% or more of an oil derived from a plant or animal material. The liquid composition comprises 5 wt.% or more, preferably 25 wt.% or more, more preferably 50 wt.% or more, for example 95 wt.% or more of an oil derived from a plant or animal material. The reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent and a polyalkylene amine is used in combination with BHQ. The reaction product of a hydrocarbyl-substituted succinic acylating agent and a polyalkylene amine comprises a PIBSA-PAM or a PIBSA-HPAM material. The prevention or retardation of the oxidation of the liquid composition is determined by using the Rancimat Test(ISO 6886).
