    • PURPOSE: A single lever bidirectional inertia latch is provided to reduce cost and complexity required to do mass production by supplying a single latch to fix an actuator arm in case that hard disc drive makes a rotation acceleration in clockwise or counterclockwise. CONSTITUTION: A base plate(16) is there. A spindle motor(14) is fixed at the base plate(16). An actuator arm(20) is connected to be able to rotate at the base plate(16), and has a first latch part(42) and a second latch part(44). A latch(36) has a first end(38) to be able to be hung at the first latch part(42) and a second end(40) to be able to be hung at the second latch part(44). A head(22) is connected magnetically to the actuator arm(20) and mechanically to the disc(12). A voice coil motor(30) can move the head in relation with the disc(12). The first end(38) of the latch(36) is engaged with the first latch part(42) of the actuator arm(20) when the base plate(16) has a clock wise rotation acceleration. The second end(40) of the latch(36) is engaged with the second latch part(44) of the actuator arm(20) when the base plate(16) has a counterclockwise rotation acceleration.

    • PURPOSE: An actuator arm having steps of impact resistive hard disc drive is provided to reduce power consumption of disc drive and data accessing time by reducing mass of arm forming steps at a finger extended from arm. CONSTITUTION: A disc drive(10) has more than one disc(12) which is fixed at a spindle motor(14). The spindle motor(14) rotates the disc(12). The spindle motor(14) is fixed at a base plate(16) of the drive(10). The disc drive has also an actuator arm(18) which is fixed to be able to rotate at the base plate(16) by a bearing assembly(20). The actuator arm(18) has a several finger(22) extended from a central part(24). The central part(24) has an opening to expropriate the bearing assembly(20). A several suspension arms(28) are adhered to the finger(22). Each suspension arm(28) can be fixed at a corresponding finger(22) through the swage opening(29) in the finger(22). There are usually two suspension arm(28) adhered to each finger(22).

    • A micro-actuator, an actuator assembly, a hard disc drive, and a method for operating the hard disc drive are provided to operate the hard disc drive easily and accurately by using a piezoelectric sensor-actuator to estimate temperature or pressure near a slider. A micro-actuator(80) of a hard disc drive comprises at least one piezoelectric sensor-actuator(100). The piezoelectric sensor-actuator(100) is joined to a slider through a micro-actuator frame to contribute the positioning of the slider. The piezoelectric sensor-actuator(100) includes a piezoelectric actuator(110) and a piezoelectric sensor(102). The piezoelectric actuator(110) contributes the positioning of the slider when the piezoelectric actuator(110) is stimulated by a potential difference between two actuator terminals(112,116). The piezoelectric sensor(102) is bonded to the piezoelectric actuator(110) through a non-conductive adhesive(108). The piezoelectric sensor(102) is used to measure stress-strain by applying a sensor potential difference between two sensor terminals in response to the stress-strain.

The first contact region(1022) and the second contact region(1024) to which the first end part and the second end part of the piezoelectric element are attached are formed in the offset mounting surface(1020). The offset mounting surface(1020) includes the first notch(1026) and a slot(1110) which provide asymmetry between the first contact region and the second contact region.
