    • PURPOSE: A method for controlling filter coefficient of a continuous time filter and a data storage device using the same are provided to secure the reliability of a data storage device by considering the flying height of a magnetic head varied according to use environment to extract the optimum CTF filter coefficient. CONSTITUTION: A data storage device(100) comprises a magnetic disk(110), a magnetic head(120), a continuous time filter(141), a measuring unit(143,145), and a microprocessor unit(160). The magnetic head is separate from the surface of the magnetic disk to a certain flying height and reads data from the magnetic disk to output a read signal. The continuous time filter filters the read signal according to cut-off frequency and outputs the filtered signal. The measuring unit measures the channel state and bit error rate from the filtered read signal and outputs the measurement result. The microprocessor unit varies the cut-off frequency of the continuous time filter and regulates the filter coefficient of the continuous time filter according to the output measurement result.
