    • PURPOSE: A test stand and test method for testing a disc for a hard disc drive are provided to accurately test the disc whether or not the disc has a thermal decay rate that is not acceptable by the disc. CONSTITUTION: A test stand includes a spindle motor for rotating a disc(12), a head(54) coupled to the disc, a heater(58) for heating the disc, and a controller(56) connected to the head. The controller writes a reference signal in a reference track of the disc and then reduce the amplitude of the reference signal. The controller, writes a test signal in the disc, reads the test signal when the disc is heated by the heater, reads the reference signal, and then normalizes the test signal with the reference signal. The amplitude of the reference signal is reduced according to DC erasure current from the head.
