    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermally actuated switch which can mechanically hold contact state after actuation, whereas holding action can be released or prevented during production.
      SOLUTION: The thermally actuated switch comprises a long thin case 10 equipped with a contact composed of a moving contact 12 and a fixed contact 11, an external connecting terminal 13 connected to the contact, and a bimetal 14 which flips to move the moving contact 12 when temperature goes above a preset temperature. The case 10 is equipped with a latch component 15 which is placed at an end of longitudinal axis and moves freely in the longitudinal direction. The latch component 15 is composed of a conduction blockade 15g which interrupts between the moving contact 12 and the fixed contact 11, and blocks conduction between them when the bimetal 14 flips and a latch mechanism 15f for preventing or releasing the interruption of the conduction blockade 15g.

A contacting electrode 15, installed at one end of a flexible substrate 14, is positioned so as to oppose to a tip of the lead wire 17a. A spring 16 is installed between an upper side of the tip of the flexible substrate 14 and the case 11, and this is constituted so that in the state in which the shape memory polymer 12 is compressed, the contacting electrode 15 is pressure contacted to the lead wire 17a, and so that in the state that the shape memory polymer 12 is extended, it pushes up the contacting electrode 15 to be separated from the lead wire 17a against the elastic force of the spring 16.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermostat shielded from the ambient condition and operating efficiently by generating a sufficient heat quantity with the resistor of a separator located between a first blade and a contact point when the first blade is moved from a first position kept in contact with the contact point to a second position separated from the contact point, and keeping the first blade at the second position until a load current is removed. SOLUTION: A first blade 14 is fixed to a case 12, a second blade 20 is moved, and its inner end section 24 is brought into contact with the inner end section 18 of the first blade 14. When the inside of a thermostat reaches the prescribed open-circuit forming temperature, the inner end section 24 of the second blade 20 is moved in the direction of an arrow A and separated. A resistor is provided between a conductive pad on a first face in a separator 36 and a conductive pad on a second face. When the inner end section of the second blade 20 is moved to a second position, a sufficient heat quantity is generated by the resistor, and the second blade 20 is kept at the second open position until a load current is removed. The thermostat is finally cooled and reset by itself.
