      SOLUTION: The contact switching device is provided with the body part 1 which has a housing chamber 1d in which a conductive fluid L is stored and a pair of contacts are installed and an injection groove part 20 which is connected to the housing chamber 1d on one end side and has an injection port 2f for injecting the conductive fluid L into the housing chamber 1d on the other end side, a closing plate 4 for closing the injection port 2f, and an actuator 7 which is a drive means for moving the conductive fluid L stored in the housing chamber 1d and switches the conduction status between the pair of contacts 5a, 6a. A projected wall part 21, which protrudes inside and has a projection face 21a substantially in parallel to the injection port 2f opposed to it is formed with a prescribed spacing from the injection port 2f in the thickness direction of the body part 1, on the inner wall of the injection groove part 20.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To save power of a liquid metal relay and to increase a life of the liquid metal relay by reducing quality degradation caused by heating.
      SOLUTION: In a state that a voltage is not applied across a conductive pad 3 mounted on a silicon substrate 5 and a conductive pad 4 mounted on a glass substrate 6, since a liquid metal 2 is on an electrical contact 63 of a cavity 10 and is not on an electrical contact 64, there is electric insulation between the electrical contacts 63, 64. In the insulation state, when a voltage is applied across the conductive pads 3, 4, an electrostatic attractive force between the conductive pads 3, 4 deforms the cavity 10 to move the liquid metal 2 to the left side in the cavity 10. This converts a space between the electric contacts 63, 64 from the insulation state to the conduction state through the liquid metal 2. In the conduction state, when it is stopped to apply a voltage across the conductive pads 3, 4; the shape of the cavity 10 recovers, and the liquid metal 2 moves to the left side in the cavity 10 due to a pressure of a gas in a part 101 of the cavity 10 to convert the space between the electrical contacts 63, 64 from the conduction state to the insulation state.
