    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress the vibration of cooling fins while increasing cooling effect in a cylinder.

    • PURPOSE:To enable a cylinder to be used in a high temperature range and to facilitate manufacture of the cylinder, by a method wherein a cylinder body with fins is made of ceramic, a cooling passage is installed, and cylinder liner is engaged with the cylinder body so that tension is axially applied. CONSTITUTION:Fins 4 are formed to the outer periphery of a cylinder body 2 made of ceramic, and a cooling passage 11 is formed between the outer peripheral surface of a Fe series cylinder liner 3 engaged inwardly with the cylinder body and the inner peripheral surface of the cylinder body 2. A cylinder liner 3 comprises a thin cylindrical liner body 8 and a ring 9 engaged with the one end thereof, and has a flange part 10a at the outer peripheral edge of the other end side of the liner body 8, and axial tension is applied under a condition in that the cylinder liner is engaged with the cylinder body 2. This enables the cylinder to be used in a high temperature range along with improvement of cooling capacity, and reduces the area of a portion, needing machining, of the cylinder, resulting in facilitation of manufacture of the cylinder.

    • PURPOSE:To cool the outer surface of a cylinder uniformly, by forming through- holes extended longitudinally between the cylinder of an engine and a cam chain chamber formed by the side of the cylinder, and forming fins in the through- holes. CONSTITUTION:A cam chain chamber 25 incorporating therein a cam chain is disposed by the side of a cylinder bore 15 of an air-cooled engine 1 which is mounted on a down-tube 4 of a motor cycle, and through-holes 28 are formed between the cylinder bore 15 and the cam chain chamber 25 to extend longitudinally of the engine 1. Further, a proper number of longitudinally extended, horizontal cooling fins 27 are formed on the inside of the through-holes 28.
