    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steelmaking dust recycling system by which dust produced in a steel production process can be inexpensively reused as a raw material for steelmaking and particularly efficiency in dezincification treatment can be improved. SOLUTION: Dust 11, which is produced in a steel production process using a melting furnace 1 and composed mainly of iron and its oxide, is mixed with powder composed mainly of carbon and the resultant mixture is pelletized into mixture pellets 11p. After impregnated with water immediately before compaction, the mixture pellets 11p are put in a compacting die and compacted into briquettes B as a solidified matter of steelmaking dust. The briquettes B can be reused as a raw material for the melting furnace 1. By subjecting the dust having concentrated zinc concentration to dezincification treatment, treatment quantity at the dezincification can be reduced and efficiency in the dezincification treatment can be improved.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for efficiently and stably melting an iron source that contains a large amount of an iron scrap of thin sheets, for a long period of time, while inhibiting the base metal from depositing on a furnace wall, and preventing a bridging phenomenon, the increase in pressure loss and the aggravation in air permeability. SOLUTION: In a method for operating a vertical furnace by alternately charging the iron source which contains 50 to 90 mass% of the iron scrap of the thin sheets and coke onto a bed of coke that has been charged in a lower part of the furnace from the furnace top so that they form layers, and melting the iron source while sending air through tuyeres of the lower part of the furnace, this operation method includes the steps of: (a) dividing the iron scrap of the thin sheets into two parts so that the ratio of the iron scrap of the thin sheets after having been divided with respect to the whole quantity of the iron source becomes 50 mass% or less in both of the parts, for one charge in a raw material feeding bucket; (b) inserting at least any of raw materials among an iron scrap of thick plates, an iron source excluding iron scrap and coke, in an interval between the charges of the divided iron scraps of the thin sheets; and then (c) alternately charging the divided iron scraps of the thin sheets and any of the iron scrap of the thick plates, the iron source excluding the iron scrap and the coke so that they form layers, into the furnace through the raw material feeding bucket.
