    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved modular rolling mill capable of producing articles of various lengths in spite of a single rolling mill and also, easily performing rolling under heat treatment at a low temperature between rolling units.
      SOLUTION: Rolling units 10a, 10b and 10c, especially, work rolls 14 and 16 of the rolling units progressively reduce the cross sectional area of an article received along a mill path line P, and send out the article. Gear units 46a, 46b and 46c connected to each rolling unit at the corresponding stage are mechanically connected to a common driven line shaft 36 via main bevel gear pair 44. The ratio of the first bevel gear set 44 at each stage is established to progressively increase from the first to the last stage to accommodate the increase in speed of the article accompanying the passage through rolling units. The gear ratio of a sub bevel gear set 54 of a last gear unit 46c is established to be the same as the gear ratio of the main bevel gear set 44 of an intermediate gear unit 46b. The line shaft 36 is mechanically connected to the last gear unit 46c by the one or the other of the bevel gear sets 44 and 54.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide especially an improved modular rolling mill about the rolling mill for manufacturing long size goods such as mainly a bar and a plate.
      SOLUTION: The modular rolling mill has a plurality of individual rolling units which are arranged along the mill pass line. Each rolling unit has at least two sets of work rolls 14, 16 defining the pass of an oval and the pass of a round and carried on roll a shaft 18 that are staggered 90° with respect to each other. The rolling units contain intermediate drive trains for connecting the roll shafts to parallel input shafts 20 to each other and projected to the first side of the pass line from each rolling unit. A single drive line shaft 30 is parallel to the pass line and present on the first side of the pass line. An output shaft 42 is mechanically connected to the line shaft 30 with a bevel gear set 44. The output shaft 42 is projected in the laterally from the line shaft 30 toward the pass line and connected by separable couplings 46 to the input shaft 20 of the rolling unit.
