    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the dust in air from being stuck on a discharge electrode, an electrode to be discharged, an inner wall, etc., of an electrifying unit. SOLUTION: A control part 46 of an air cleaner 10 lights up a germicidal lamp 34 at S19 and continuously irradiates a photocatalyst layer 39 with UV rays. The control part proceeds to S21 at the point of time when a counted value of a timer counter 48 reaches exciting start time T0 when light exciting is generated at S20 and returns the counted value of the timer counter 48 to zero and the counter is restarted. The control part 46 lights off the germicidal lamp 34 at following S22 and confirms that the hydrophilic property of the photocatalyst layer 39 is sufficiently kept by monitoring an elapsed time at S23. In the case the counted value of the timer counter 48 rises above a hydrophilicity impartation duration T1, the control part 46 returns to S19 and lights up the germicidal lamp 34 and restarts UV rays irradiation to the photocatalyst layer 39. The hydrophilic state of the photocatalyst layer 39 is maintained and power-saving is attained since the germicidal lamp 34 intermittently lights up like this.

SOLUTION: The air cleaner 10 is provided with a mechanical dust collecting filter 14, an electrifying unit 16, an electrostatic filter 18 and an intake fan 20 at the inside of a housing 12. Relating to the electrifying unit 16, a germicidal lamp 34 for emitting UV rays, the discharge electrode 36 and the electrode to be discharged 38 are horizontally disposed at every prescribed interval at the inside space 32 of a transparent material 28. A photocatalyst layer 39 on which a photocatalytic coating (titanium oxide coating) is applied is formed on the inner wall of the transparent material 28 surrounding the inside space 32 of the electrifying unit 16. The photocatalyst contained in the photocatalyst layer 39 has the characteristic hardly adsorbing electrostatically the dust floating in air since it is converted to a hydrophilic material by being excited by UV rays irradiation.

At this time, both the holding members 17, 18 are constituted so that they are rotated in the same direction as each other to hold the dust collecting paper 20, and is arranged so that the whole holding members 18 overlaps the holding members 17. In this way, a winding angle to the column part 14 of the dust collecting electrodes 11-13 and a winding angle of the dust collection paper 20 are enlarged to improve dust collecting capacity.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain dust collecting capacity according to a change in environment by installing a second dust collecting electrode having surface area larger than that of a first dust collecting electrode other than the first dust collecting electrode and forming the flow of air in the second dust collecting electrode to be produced by a fan. SOLUTION: A first dust collecting electrode 3 that is a belt-like metallic plate in which many small holes are made as an anode to which positive voltage is applied is wound on the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical casing 10 and fixed. A second dust collecting electrode 4 as an anode to which positive voltage is applied is formed into a honeycomb using an aluminum plate to form many air passes 14 in the shape of a hexagon extending in the vertical direction in order to have surface area larger than that of the first dust collecting electrode 3. And the second dust collecting electrode 4 is arranged inside the cylindrical casing 10 and fixed by a fixture 15, and the flow of air in the second dust collecting electrode 4 is formed so as to be produced by a fan 6. By this way, dust collecting capacity according to a change in environment is obtained.
