    • PURPOSE:To obtain a composite magnetic head capable of easily and accurately adjusting the plural magnetic head sections of azimuth angle to the tape running direction, by providing fulcrum sections which respectively couple the adjacent magnetic head sections of the plural magnetic head sections with each other in displaceable states at the center of the side face of each case. CONSTITUTION:Each of three magnetic head sections 2-4 respectively housed in cases 5-7 are coupled with another by means of fulcrum sections 8 and 9 provided at central positions on facing side faces of the cases 5-7. Adjustment of this composite magnetic head 1 constituted in such way is performed in such a way that after the position of the central magnetic head section 3 is adjusted the side magnetic head sections 2 and 4 are adjusted in azimuth by rotting head sections of screws 14 and 15 for adjusting azimuth. Since each section 2-4 can be displaced around the fulcrum sections 8 and 9 and the sections 8 and 9 are provided at the central part of the side face of each magnetic head section, the adjustment error can be reduced as compared with the constitution where the fulcrums are provided at the lowest part of each section 2-4.

    • PURPOSE:To thin a main magnetic pole to perform high-density recording by forming a nonmagnetic film as a thin film on a substrate and forming a soft magnetic film on this nonmagnetic film. CONSTITUTION:Though a butt surface 9a of a core half body 9 is polished into a specular surface before a nonmagnetic film 6 is formed there, acute and fine ruggedness remains on the surface 9a and the surface roughness of the surface 9a is about 0.01S to cause the degradation in magnetic characteristic. Therefore, the nonmagnetic film 6 is formed on the surface 9a by sputtering or the like to make the surface 6a of a satisfactorily smooth surface. Then, the surface roughness of the surface 6a is 0.002S. Since the film thickness of a main magnetic pole 7 is generally 0.3-0.1mum for the purpose of attaining a high density, the surface roughness to the film thickness is about 1/100, and the degradation in magnetic characteristic of the soft magnetic film due to the surface roughness can be almost ignored and the soft magnetic characteristic is improved. A soft magnetic film as the main magnetic pole 7 is formed on the nonmagnetic film 6 formed in this manner to constitute a vertical magnetic head 1.
