    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and a lipid containing the acid and to provide a microorganism containing a PUFA and its use. SOLUTION: The method for producing a polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) and a lipid containing the acid comprises the culture of a microorganism producing arachidonic acid (ARA) and/or dihomo-γ-linolenic acid (DGLA) and contains one or more of the following steps (a) to (c); (a) a step to add an organic acid to the medium in an amount of 0.01-5 w/v% after starting the main cultivation, (b) a step to control the pH of the medium in a manner to increase the pH within a cultivation effective range, and (c) a step to add a metal sulfate to the main culture medium in an amount of 0.01-0.5 w/w%.
