      SOLUTION: This device is constituted so that center parts of magnetic metal layers 1a-1d, 2a-2d of a reproduction head (figure (b)) are exposed in only the degree of 20μm to the tape sliding direction, and a mutual surface areas ratio of surface areas of metal magnetic films 31, 32 of a recording head (figure (a)) sliding in contact with the magnetic tape and surface areas of the magnetic metal layers 1a-1d, 2a-2d of the reproduction head (figure (b)) becomes in the range of 1-30 times.

      SOLUTION: A protective film 16 composed of alkoxysilanes is formed on the tape sliding surface 10a of a magnetic head 10. The protective film, composed of the alkoxysilanes, is an inorganic film having no hydroxyl groups on the surface. Such a film, formed on the tape sliding surface of the magnetic head, decomposes due to the heat of tape sliding to obstruct the chemical bond between the active silanol and the tape sliding surface. As a result, the adhesion of the silicon oxide (clear stain) to the tape sliding surface, due to the low molecular siloxane existing widely in the environment, can be effectively prevented.

When a tape of high hardness such as an evaporated tape is used as the magnetic tape 4, the upper sheet 6 has a problem in durability. In the tape cartridge 1, which is provided with a window 2a for viewing the quantity of the magnetic tape 4 wound on hubs 5, the upper sheet 6 interposed between the window 2a and the magnetic tape 4 has to avoid hindering viewing. The printed layer 6b is formed in a pattern-shape, so that frictional force due to the reduction of the contacting area with the magnetic tape 4 is reduced and visibility is secured with light transmitted through gaps between the abrasion resistant ink.
