      SOLUTION: This system is provided with a multi-recording head having four recording heads mounted on one head chip, and a reproducing head chip 44 including a head unit RH1 having four GMR heads 1 to 4 shifted in a head width direction to be stacked, and a head unit RH2 having four GMR heads 5 to 8 shifted in a head width direction to be stacked, which area arranged in positions to be adjacent to each other in a tape sliding direction and to overlap the GMR heads 4 and 5 in the head width direction. A tape traveling speed is reduced during reproduction than during recording.
