The developer carrier 52 includes an inclined groove 52b having an inclined angle to at least the developing driving direction on the end peripheral face, and performs the refresh operation with the control means to rotate the developer carrier 52 in the reverse direction to the developing driving direction for a certain time period so as to raise the fibers of the end peripheral face seal member 55.
