    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display apparatus capable of improving a response time without causing luminance loss and gray loss and to provide a method for correcting an image signal. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display includes a gray voltage generation part for generating a plurality of gray voltages, an image signal modification part for generating a first modification signal based on a first image signal and a second image signal and generating a second modification signal based on the first modification signal and a third image signal and a data driving part for selecting the gray voltage corresponding to the second modification signal out of the plurality of gray voltages and supplying the selected gray voltage to pixels as data voltage. In this case, a range of gray voltages is substantially equal to a range of target pixel voltages capable of obtaining a target transmittance of pixels and the maximum value of the second modification signal is the same as the maximum value of the image signal. The main pixel voltage is made higher than the sub pixel voltage, thereby liquid crystal molecules included in the liquid crystal material layer corresponding to the main pixel and liquid crystal molecules included in the liquid crystal material layer corresponding to the sub pixel will have different alignment angles from each other, a side visibility of the liquid crystal display panel can be enhanced. Also, the liquid crystal display panel utilizes a liquid crystal having a dielectric anisotropy and an elastic constant ratio within a specific range, so that an increase in black display transmittance is reduced and thus brightness is improved.
