    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display which improves both of aperture ratio of pixels and side visibility of a screen by further intensifying horizontal component of an electric field generated in a liquid crystal layer. SOLUTION: Each of a plurality of pixels arranged in a matrix comprises a first subpixel and a second subpixel. In each pixel, data voltages to be applied based on a single image information have opposite polarities between the first subpixel and the second subpixel. It is preferable that the first subpixel and the second subpixel are connected to different gate lines and connected to the same data voltage. Especially, data voltages with opposite polarities are applied to the first subpixel included in one of two adjacent pixels and the second subpixel included in the other in each column of the matrix of pixels and a part of active periods of gate signals to each of gate lines connected to the second subpixels of each line of the matrix of pixels and gate lines connected to the first subpixel of the next line is overlapped. The second component contains a liquid crystal compound having a 1-5C alkenyl group in terminal groups thereof. The second component is contained in a content of about 7 wt.% or less of a total content of the liquid crystal composition.

One sub-pixel electrode has a height greater than a height of the other. The pair of sub-pixel electrodes may be adjacent to each other in the length or height direction. When a pair of bent sides of each sub-pixel electrode comprises a dent side and a projection side, a projection side of one sub-pixel electrode is adjacent to a dent side of the other. Further, the dent side of one sub-pixel electrode and the projection side of the other may successively be arranged in height direction.
