    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multi-domain liquid crystal display device excellent in visibility. SOLUTION: The multi-domain liquid crystal display device includes, for every pixel region defined by crossing of a gate line and a data line formed on an insulating substrate: a first pixel electrode 190a connected to a first thin film transistor; and a second pixel electrode 190b capacitively connected to the first pixel electrode overlapping with a connection electrode connected to the first pixel electrode. The second pixel electrode is electrically connected to a maintaining electrode line 131 through a second thin film transistor, and a higher voltage is established to the second pixel electrode than that of the first pixel electrode in relation to a shared electrode. At this time, the first pixel electrode has a larger area than the second pixel electrode, a low voltage to high voltage being a ratio of 0.50-0.95. Thus, a wide viewing angle liquid crystal display device with improved side visibility can be obtained, and at the same time, excellent aperture ratio and transmittance can be secured.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device and a display plate used for the display device and to realize a multidomain liquid crystal display device having excellent visibility. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device contains: gate lines formed on an insulating substrate; data lines intersecting with the gate lines as insulated; a first pixel electrode formed in each pixel region defined by the intersection of the gate lines and the data lines; a first thin film transistor with three terminals respectively connected to the gate line, the data line and the first pixel electrode; and a second pixel electrode which is formed in each pixel region and which overlaps the coupling electrode linked to the first electrode to make capacitive coupling with the first pixel electrode. The second pixel electrode is electrically connected with a holding electrode line via the second thin film transistor to produce a higher voltage than the voltage of the first electrode pixel with respect to the common electrode. The first pixel electrode has a larger area than the second pixel electrode and low voltage in the ratio of 0.50 to 0.95 with respect to the high voltage. Thus, a liquid crystal display device having a wide viewing angle with improved visibility in lateral directions can be obtained, as well as a high aperture rate and transmissivity can be maintained.
