摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain an optical fiber of a low loss with high productivity by inserting a doped quartz glass rod of a high refractive index into a synthetic quartz glass tube of a low loss; putting the resulting solid composite rod into a low-purity glass tube; and making them solid. CONSTITUTION:Doped quartz glass rod 11 as core material is inserted into synthetic quartz glass tube 12 of high purity and a low loss obtd. by hydrolysis of a halogen cpd. such as SiCl4 or a plasma flame method, and they are made solid by heating to a high temp. with external heat source 14 to obtain a semi-preform rod for forming a clad layer. B- or F-contg. quartz glass is used as the material of tube 12 besides pure quartz glass. The preform rod is further put into low-purity quartz glass tube 13 such as natural quartz glass tube and made solid by heating to a high temp. with external heat source 14, thus producing a preform rod.

摘要： PURPOSE:To obtain the title material with little light absorption loss by forming a laminar deposit of glass fine particles by flame hydrolysis after which the deposit is heated in a fluorine cpd. gas atmosphere and sintered in an inert gas atmosphere to reduce the OH group concn. of the glass. CONSTITUTION:Oxygen 2, hydrogen 3, shielding gas 4 and feed gas 5 are fed into coaxial multiple tube burner 1 made of quartz to deposit glass fine particles on the outside of rotating starting material 6 by flame hydrolysis. The resulting laminar deposit of glass fine particles is introduced into a high temp. furnace provided with many gas introduction openings 8 in the inner wall. In the furnace the deposit is heated to 1000 deg.C or below while supplying a fluorine cpd. gas such as fluorocarbon gas or sulfur fluoride gas from gas supply inlet 9 to obtain a glass fine particle body whose outer circumference portion contains much fluorine. This body is then put into high temp. furnace 10 of an inert gas atmosphere and sintered at 1400 deg.C or above to convert it into transparent glass.

摘要： PURPOSE:The gaseous starting materials are subjected to flame hydrolysis to form a laminate of glass fine particles, then the laminate is heated in an atmosphere of a fluoride and an inert gas for clarification, thus achieving low-cost production of glass material for optical transmission. CONSTITUTION:A multiple burner 1 is used to form oxyhydrogen flame by feeding oxygen 2 and hydrogen 3 and the gaseous starting meterials such as silicon tetrachloride 5 are fed to the center of the oxyhydrogen flame to effect hydrolysis, further a carrier gas 4 such as argon is sent in, as a shielder, to allow fine particles of glass to accumulate on the top of the rotating seed rod 6 in the axis direction. Then, the laminate of glass fine particles is placed in a high-temperature oven 11 and heated over 1,400 deg.C, as a mixture of a gaseous fluoride from inlet 9 and an inert gas such as helium from the inlet 8 is introduced to effect the clarification of the laminate and simultaneously fluroine is added as a dopant. As the fluoride, is mentioned, e.g., hydrogen fluoride, carbon tetrafluoride, S2F2, SiF4, F2, or halogen fluoride.

CONSTITUTION:A glass raw material for a core having a high refractive index and a combustion gas are mixed and burned by a core burner 1 at the center of the axis to be rotated and moved upward to deposit and grow fine glass particles and form a part 4 to be a core. When the part 4 to be core is formed to some extent, a glass raw material for forming a clad having a low refractive index and a combustion gas are mixed and burned by a clad burner 2' to deposit fine glass particles and form a part 5 to be the clad. The shape of the clad burner 2' is flattened in a direction crossing the radial direction of the growing base material, and the heating temperature distribution of the part 5 to form the clad by the burner 2' is flattened in the same direction as described above.

摘要： PURPOSE:A light transmitting fiber, having a small increase in the transmission loss under the radiation environment, and consisting of high-purity silica glass containing an oxide, e.g. Ce oxide, in a high-refractive index part and a low-refractive index silica glass, e.g. a plastic, in a low-refractive index part respectively. CONSTITUTION:SiH4 gas (B) diluted with He gas is fed from an oxyhydrogen burner 11 into a flame 12 formed by feeding combustion H2 gas (A) and O2 gas (C) into the oxyhydrogen burner 11 to form fine glass particles of SiO2. At the same time, an aqueous solution of a Ce compound is jetted from a nozzle 14 in the form of a mist 15 to laminate fine glass particles 16 containing Ce2O3 and CeO2 in the glass particles or on the outside thereof on a target 17' and form a glass soot or transparent glass material 17 thereon. A flowing out gas 18 is fed if necessary to the nozzle 14, and a compressing gas 19 is further fed into an aqueous solution 19'' in an aqueous solution container 19' to form a mist aqueous solution 15 by the nozzle 14. As a result, a light transmitting fiber having a small increase in the loss even under the radiation environment can be obtained.

They are subjected to flame hydrolysis to attach glass fine particles to member 7, and the paticles are grown to fine particle body 8 and sintered. Since the first starting material gas and the second gas are separated with hydrogen gas, central glass particles do not spread to the periphery. Thus, the title glass tube is obtd. which is converted into a fiber without making a difference in sectional refractive index and reducing the transmission zone width.

A non-modulation light from a communication opposite party made incident to the quartz group glass optical waveguide 2 is switched to a light receiving element 7 or a reflection mirror 8 by the optical switch, from which the light is sent back while being converted into the strength/weakness of light depending on information to be sent.
