    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data format by which a preamble can be reproduced properly and data can be reproduced properly, even if the phases of recording signals of respective tracks do not match. SOLUTION: In the data format in which a unit being one unit of signal processing for reproducing data is constituted of a plurality of tracks, the preamble, such as, gain control pattern and synchronizing which are added to data to control reproduction of data is arranged so that the positions in the direction of progress of a track does not overlap the preamble of the other track in the same unit. Since the preambles of the adjacent plurality of tracks will not be reproduced simultaneously by a reproducing head, even when the phases of the recording signals of respective tracks are not adjusted, since the reproduced signals of the preambles of adjacent tracks will not cancel each other, reproduction of data can be performed properly. A gain control 41a controls the since wave gain of an oscillator 41 corresponding to a change in the output RST of the regenerative signals RS, and a control signal CSS is sent to a bias current circuit 201 at a point P1 , whereby the voltage BCU of the reproducing head RH can be set variable so as to make the output RST of the regenerative signals RS optimal.
