    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine, a rotary joint used for the same, and a method of operating the shield machine for rapidly and easily performing cutter bit replacing work by providing a cutter bit replacing means capable of mounting a new cutter bit to a cutter spoke from a body part. SOLUTION: The shield machine 100 has the body part 10; a rotary excavating part 20; the rotary joint (RJ) 40 for supplying oil pressure to the rotary excavating part 20 from the body part 10; a stator support means 50 for supporting a stator 41 of the RJ 40; a stator fixing means 60 for fixing the position of the stator support means 50; and a rotor rotating means 70 for transmitting rotation of the rotary excavating part 20 to a rotor 42 of the RJ 40. A stator support lever 52 of the stator support means 50 is swingable around a support lever fulcrum 51 used as the swing center.     • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable the feed and recovery of a cutter bit, and to prevent arbitrary movement by constantly restraining or restricting a position of the cutter bit. The operating method has a step of housing the cutter bit 90 which is moved to a cutter-bit storage chamber 42, capable of communicating with the groove 50, by the operation of the means 10.
