Then, in the picture converter 109, the input picture analysis part 104 calculates coefficient data to the base data of a category corresponding to base selection signals S106 for picture signals S102 to be converted, the sketch analysis part 108 calculates the coefficient data to the base data of the category corresponding to the base selection signals S106 for sketch picture signals S107, the coefficient synthesis part 105 obtains the weighted average of the two coefficient data and the picture compositing part 105 uses the weighted averaged coefficient data, linearly couples the base data and outputs them as conversion pictures.

    • PURPOSE:To compose a natural image from a simple input image by optimizing proper block size. CONSTITUTION:A block division part 1 divides input image data IN into plural blocks to generate input block data S1. A block analysis part 2 inputs the input block data S1 and base data S3a and generates coefficient data S2a and S2b. A block decision part 4 decides whether the respective blocks are further divided on the basis of the coefficient data S2a and outputs a redivision indication signal S4a to the block division part 1 when the blocks are redivided, and the block division part 1 redivides the input block data S2. When not, a decision end signal S4b is outputted to the block analysis part 2. A coefficient memory 5 stores the coefficient data S2b and outputs it as coefficient data S5. A block composition part 6 generates composite block data S6 from the coefficient data S5 and base data S3b. An output part 7 generates composite image data S7 from the composite block data S6.
