    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent formation of burrs at the both end parts of a cast slab and the ooze of molten steel from the lower ends of a pair of side weirs in conducting the continuous casting method of a twin drum type, where a thin cast strip is cast with the pair of side weirs being shifted upwards as pressed against both end-faces of a pair of drums.
      SOLUTION: The formation of burrs is detected by measuring, with a plate- thickness gauge, the increase margins of plate-thickness at the width end-parts of a thin cast strip S discharged from the gap of drums 1, 1. The ooze of molten steel from the width end-part of the cast slab is detected by measuring the extension margin of width of the cast slab with a plate-width gauge 5 or by measuring the rise margins of temperature of the width end-parts of the cast slab. When the burrs are formed, the ascending speed of the side weirs 2 is increased and/or the pressing speed of the weirs 2 is decreased by a controller 7. When the molten steel oozes, the ascending speed of the weirs 2 is decreased and/or the pressing speed of the weirs 2 is increased.
