摘要： PURPOSE:To provide a cooling roll capable of producing a metal strip of high quality by holding the profile of the roll to a prescribed shape in a twin roll type continuous casting apparatus for producing the metal strip. CONSTITUTION:The cooling roll 1 is divided into three sections of A, B, C in the roll axial direction and among cooling grooves 2a, 2b, 2c arranged near the roll surface, the cooling grooves 2a, 2c on the sections A, C positioned at the end parts are arranged in equal density to each other. The cooling grooves in the section B positioned at the center part of the roll are arranged in density much closer than that of the cooling grooves 2a, 2c to increase the cooling capacity of the roll surface at the center part. Therefore, thermal deformation of the roll surface is controlled and by holding the roll profile of a prescribed shape, a uniform rolling reduction force is applied over the whole width of the solidified shell and the development of faults, such as crack, wrinkle is prevented.

Then an air cylinder 10 for rotating the ring 8 is connected with the ring 8 through an arm 9 and the air cylinder 7 for sliding the heat radiation preventing plate 1 is connected with the heat radiation preventing plate 1 through an arm 6.

The scrapers providing the rotating scraper disks 10 are disposed at both end surfaces of each cooling drum so that the scraper disks 10 push both end surfaces of the cooling drums 101. By this method, since the casting flash stuck to both end surfaces of the cooling drums can be scraped with the rotation and the pushing pressure of the scraper disks, the sealing property between both end surfaces of the cooling drums and the side weirs is improved.

As the target strip thickness Ta is achieved while controlling the roll pressing force P and casting velocity Vc so as not to develop the center bulging and longitudinal crack, the strip having excellent surface characteristic can be provided.

As the sheet shape of the cast strip is varied at every moments during casting, always the shape is detected with the detector 4 to transmit to the controller 5. The controller 5 adjusts calorific power of the block 3 in the roll 1 by this value, and the thermal expansion rate of both end parts of the roll 1 is adjusted to control the shape and the sheet shape of the cast strip is maintained to good.

In this case, the period W of the recess is made to 5-40mm and the variety rate (h) of the area ratio is made to 10-30%. In this result, the variety of the solidified shell 3 itself is confirmed to develop unduration in the range of 10-50mm in many cases as the experimental results. Further, about the area ratio, in the case the difference is too small, the effect is reduced and it is the optimum to be in the range of 10-30%. Further, in the figure, 2 : molten metal, 5 : tundish, 10 : drum coater, 4 : air gap are shown, respectively.

The developing solidified shells 6a, 6b at the roll gap part 2, are pressure welded and integrated as entrapped the fine metal wire 4 in the inside thereof. By this method, the jointing strength between the dummy bar and the metal strip is improved and the stable metal strip can be obtd.

By this method, as the atmosphere in the pouring basin part can be made to more perfect non-oxidizing atmosphere, the oxidation on the molten metal surface is reduced and surface defect caused by involution of scum can be prevented and the cast strip having excellent quality can be produced.
