    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust intake (exhaust) sound of an engine to a desired tone.
      SOLUTION: The sound adjusting device 10 is provided with a first resonator 20 and a second resonator 30 having concentric and cylindrical neck parts 21 and 31 around a rotatable shaft 42. A frequency control plate 26 is provided inside a case body 22 for the neck part 21 of the first resonator 20, and area of a communication opening 23 communicated with an intake duct 100 is changed with rotation of the shaft 42. The frequency control plate 26 is formed with a frequency adjusting plate 28, and length thereof abutting on a side surface of the case body 24 is changed with rotation of the shaft 42. Resonant frequency of the first resonator 20 can be changed by change of these two elements. Resonant frequency of the second resonator can be similarly changed with rotation of the shaft 42, and resonant frequency of both the resonators is controlled by a control device 50 in response to the engine speed.

Biasing force is applied on the piston ring 2 from the spring 5 via the rod 3 to push out the piston ring 2 to a thrust side from the groove 7 during operation of the engine. The piston ring 2 pushed out to the thrust side can stabilize posture of the piston device 10 in a cylinder 11, and can reduce collisions of the piston device 10 on a bore due to rotation of the piston device during operation of the engine.
