    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a PM amount generated by fuel to adhere to a cylinder head.SOLUTION: The apparatus includes: an in-cylinder injection valve which injects fuel into the cylinder of the internal combustion engine; a temperature obtaining means for obtaining a temperature of the cylinder head of the internal combustion engine; an injection-timing change means for changing timing of fuel injection from the in-cylinder injection valve; a variable valve mechanism which varies timing of opening an intake valve of the internal combustion engine or a lift amount; and a control means for changes at least one of fuel injection timing, the timing of opening the intake valve, or the lift amount so that a collision amount of fuel to be injected from the in-cylinder injection valve to the intake valve is reduced more than when a temperature obtained by the temperature obtaining device is a predetermined value or higher, when the temperature is lower than the predetermined value.

While at least either one of the injection condition of the fuel injection valve 7 and the valve opening property of the intake valve 15 is set so as to prevent collision between the fuel injected by the fuel injection valve 7 and the intake valve 15 by controlling the fuel injection valve 7 or the valve gear 17, at least one of the set injection condition and valve opening property is changed so that the fuel injected by the fuel injection valve 7 and the intake valve 15 collide with each other when an internal combustion engine 1 is cold started.

    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stably reduce emission of PM by executing appropriate control based on the distribution state of PM distributed in a cylinder inside space or on a cylinder inside wall surface.
      SOLUTION: An ECU (electronic control unit) 60 calculates a space distribution coefficient α corresponding to the quantity of PM distributed in the cylinder inside space and a wall surface distribution coefficient β corresponding to the quantity of PM distributed on the cylinder inside wall surface based on at least the operation state of an internal combustion engine. The valve open timing of an exhaust valve 34 is retarded when the space distribution coefficient α is greater than a determination value X. Thus, the after-burn period of PM in which residual oxygen in a cylinder participates is extended, and space PM is reduced. The lift of an exhaust valve 34 is reduced, the flow velocity and the degree of turbulence at discharge of exhaust gas are increased when the wall surface distribution coefficient β is greater than a determination value Y. Then, wall surface PM and residual oxygen are suitably mixed and the reaction properties of both are increased, and the wall surface PM is reduced.
