摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the extraction of erroneous identification area images in a landscape image by collating the candidate for an identification area image extracted in a visible light image with an infrared image and inspecting the contour pixels of the candidate of the identification area image. SOLUTION: A visible light image of a landscape photographed by a visible light camera 1 is inputted to an identification area image extracting means 3, and a candidate R for an identification area image is selected by using the characteristics of an identification. Meanwhile an object contour extracting means 4 extracts the contour of an object from an infrared image indicating the temperature of the visible light image photographed with an infrared camera 2 to generate a contour image Gi'. An identification area image candidate evaluating means 5 calculates the complexity Fv of the candidate R and the complexity Fi of an area corresponding to the candidate R in the image Gi', respectively determines threshold for the complexities Fv and Fi and narrows down the candidate R. Next, the number of pixels of a contour existing in an outer circumferential neighborhood area of the candidate R in the image Gi' and the ratio Fp of contour length of the candidate R are found. An identification area image is extracted in the candidate R by using the ratio Fp.

SOLUTION: The signboard image is extracted from a scenery image photographed by a scenery image input part 1 by a scenery image signboard image extracting part 2, the distortion and rotation of the signboard image are corrected by a correction/ evaluation part 3, characters in the signboard image are recognized by a character recognizing part 4, measuring parts 5, 6 and 7 measure the photographing position, photographing direction and photographing distance of the scenery image and from these measured values, a signboard position estimating part 8 estimates the position of the signboard. A signboard character string collating part 9 collates and prepares the character recognized result and resident name list in a map data base 13, collates the list with the signboard position and outputs the list of candidate resident names in an area and resident names out of the area. These names are displayed on a display part 10 and from this collation and display, the addition of data to the map database by a data adding part 11 and the deletion of data by a data deleting part 12 are performed.

摘要： PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide on-line handwritten character recognizing method and device for the same with which even double writing/stroke cut/character describing a stroke from the opposite direction can be recognized by utilizing a recognizing method not depending on the input state of strokes consisting of a character. SOLUTION: A binary pattern composed of continuous lines is provided by performing the processing of interpolation between the writing points of the stroke consisting of a character to a handwritten input pattern 1 by preprocessing 30. The character line of this binary pattern is made thicker by thickening processing and sent to feature extracting processing 40 and a feature describing the character is extracted from the sent binary pattern. While using this extracted feature, the category to which the input pattern 1 belongs is discriminated by identifying processing 60 and a character candidate is outputted. Thus, since on-line handwritten character recognition is performed without depending on the input state of strokes, even double write/stroke cut/ character describing the stroke from the opposite direction can be recognized as well.
