摘要： PURPOSE:To constitute the titled connection so that a bridge reaction of a thermosetting resin of the inside does not advance by cooling a punch at the time of forming, and no influence is exerted on a fiber strand even if a jacket contracts by cooling, by making a gap between the jacket and the fiber strand larger. CONSTITUTION:A die 30A is heated to about 165 deg.C, but a punch 30B is cooled to about 60 deg.C, for instance, by a water-cooled pipe 4, etc., and a transfer forming is executed. As a result, a thermosetting resin 42 in the die 30A is bridged and hardened, but the thermosetting resin 42 in the punch 30B is left in an unhardened state. Subsequently, in its state, a core 20 is fetched by opening a metallic die, and thereafter, a read end part 26 left in an unbridged state is heated and bridged over again. As for the core 20 formed in this way, a gap 18 between a jacket 12 and a fiber strand 14 becomes large. Even if the jacket 12 contracts in a low temperature area, no influence is exerted on the fiber strand 14, therefore, a transmission loss does not increase either.

摘要： PURPOSE:To connect easily optical fibers without requiring the selection of the working site by using an oxyhydrogen flame contg. a halogen compound. CONSTITUTION:Gaseous O2 and gaseous SF6 are fed to an oxyhydrogen burner having a double-tubed structure. Gaseous H2 is fed to the outer tube, the tip of the burner and optical fibers are set at 2mm. interval to preheat the fibers, and the fibers are melted and connected with the gaseous O2 and gaseous SF2. After the connection, surface hydroxyl groups are removed from the connected part and its vicinities by surface treatment. This surface treatment is carried out at a low temp. so as to prevent the corrosion of the surface of the connected fiber with HF produced in the oxyhydrogen flame. The exposed part of the resulting optical fiber including the connected part is coated with epoxy resin which is the coating material of the original optical fibers, and the resin is crosslinked with ultraviolet rays to reinforce the optical fiber. In this method, a gaseous or liq. halogen compound having a hydroxyl group removing effect and high stability at ordinary temp. is added to an oxyhydrogen flame in place of conventional gaseous chlorine having the same effect.

摘要： PURPOSE:To push a fiber strand to the right position in a V groove by making a coated part straight, even if the coated part is bent, by pushing coated fiber down by lowering a coating clamp at first, and then by pushing a fiber strand down by lowering a core clamp. CONSTITUTION:A fiber strand 26 is put in a V groove 12 and a coated fiber 28 is put in a groove 18, and the coated fiber 28 is pushed down by lowering a coating clamp 22 at first and then the fiber strand 26 is pushed down by lowering a strand clamp 20. By placing a bent fiber core, the strand 26 is caught by an oblique side 35 of a notch 34 of a guide 30 and the end part of the coated fiber 28 is made so as to rise from the groove 18. When the clamp 22 is lowered, the coated fiber 28 is pushed down, and the strand 26 slides down along the oblique side 35 as expressed by an arrow and drops into a slit 36. The coated fiber 28 is also stored in the groove 18 automatically and is pushed down by the clamp 22.

CONSTITUTION:An optical fiber core 1 is passed onto an optical fiber 2 and is coated with a molding resin 3 having a collar 31. A metallic pipe 5 is fitted onto the same. Ruggedness is provided on the inside of the pipe 5 and is gnawed into the molded resin. The metallic pipe 5 having ruggedness on the inside is inserted into the cylindrical part of a lower die having a cylindrical part 91, a top end 92 and a supporting part 92 and the core 1 and the fiber 2 are inserted into the pipe 5 coaxially therewith in the stage of assembling. The molten resin 3 is injected therein and is pressed by an upper die 10. The assembly is taken out of the dies after cooling. The connector ferrule is thus easily fixed to the optical fiber and the time for polishing the end face of the fiber is reduced.

摘要： PURPOSE:To observe clearly the state of an optical waveguide part of an optical fiber by using a plane light source as a light source of transmitted light illumination. CONSTITUTION:Rays 5 are projected from a plane light source 2 to an optical fiber 1 to observe the optical fiber 1 from the direction of an arrow 3. The state of an optical waveguide part 4 is observed with the light passing this part, especially, the peripheral part because a steep gradient of refractive index distrubution exists in this peripheral part. When the plane light source is used, rays pass the peripheral part of the optical waveguide part, and much rays which do not meet conditions of observation possibility exist. Only a part of parallel rays satisfies conditions, and consequently, the observed area in the optical fiber is limited.
